What were the French canonists' objections to Compilatio tertia? Would they have edited and revised the collection if it had been officially promulgated by Pope Innocent III? How did the canonists see their role?  All canonical collections before Compilatio tertia were private. If he knew about the "Transalpine Compilatio tertia" what was Pope Innocent's attitude?
