n 1986, Wilfried Hartmann (Universität
Tübingen) and Ken Pennington began
to organize a team of international scholars to write a new
History of
Medieval Canon
Law. After meetings in San Diego,
Bad Homburg (Frankfurt), Rome, the project was launched with over fifty
scholars from thirteen countries participating and with a grant from
National Endowment for the Humanities (1989-1996). The first four volumes of
the project are published and volume five on the medieval courts is in
press.
