San Cataldo in Capella Palatina

The
Great Admiral Maio of Bari supported the construction of San Cataldo ca.
1160, just before he was murdered in a plot hatched by the Archbishop of
Palermo. The "highly ornate crenelation . . . is of Islamic
derivation" and was probably similar to the crenelation now gone of its
neighbor.
