Charlemagne granted this charter
to the monastery of Fulda on January 7, 777. In it he granted the monastery that had
been founded by the Anglo-Saxon missionary to German lands, Saint Boniface, in 744
the royal lands of Hammelburg, Eschenbach, Diebach, and Erthal. The notary Wigbald
wrote the charter, and he wrote it in the cursive script used by the Merovingians.
