Guido de Baysio
(ca. 1300),
Rosarium
(Venice 1480 and 1495) D.45 c.3, s.v.
blandimentis
(unfoliated):
. . .
I believe that princes for whom their Jews are
slaves, can take small children from them without any injury, since Jews
have no power over them as slaves
(patriapotestas) . . . The princes may give the same children as
their servants and give them to others or sell them into slavery, in spite
of their unwilling parents, and thus can take them away to be baptized, and
in doing this they can gain merit. The princes cannot, however, compel
the parents to the faith . . .
