Saint Omer, Bibliothèque municipale 453, fol. 10ra Gratian, Decretum D.1 |
Conclusions 1. Sankt Gallen 673 was used for teaching over a long period of time. How long? Who knows. 2. Roman law texts were added to the margins from various sources and used skillfully. It could not have been used at a provincial school because it would not have had access to the Roman law manuscripts. 3. Canonical marginal additions appear in Gratian I and II but were also taken from other unknown sources. 4. The manuscript's owner tried to make the causae congruent with Gratian 1 or 2 after a period of time. 5. Sankt Gallen can be useful as a guide to understanding the various stages of the Decretum's evolution. 6. Pervenit and Duae sunt are evidence of radical canonical editing of texts in the early twelfth century. |
